Sale Report: 13 June 2012 Primestock

At Cockermouth on Wednesday Mitchell’s held its weekly sale of primestock sale where 79 prime cattle, bulls, cast cows and 1,583 prime sheep including ewes were forward.

Prime cattle were by far the dearest ever with an outstanding show being topped at 249p/kg (£1,576.32) for a Limousin heifer from Len Skelton, Low House Farm, purchased by George Chapman.  Mr Skelton also sold another two heifers at 248p/kg purchased by John Little and George Chapman, with his run of five heifers averaging 246.36p/kg.  John Bowe, Hunday Farm, sold cattle at 244p/kg and 231p/kg to George Chapman and Haighs Butchers.  Edward Gate, Hollins Farm, sold heifers to 239p/kg purchased by John Little.  The overall average for heifers was 226p/kg and steers averaged 212.37p/kg.

Prime bulls were very good selling up to 215p/kg for Limousin’s from R Smith, Lakeview to Ket Kirbeck.  Black and Whites averaged 173.4p/kg. 

Cast cows were tremendous to sell with a top of 181.5p/kg for a Limousin from Philip Walker, Beechcroft.

1,036 Prime lambs sold at similar values to average 204.76p/kg.  Top price per head was £103.50 for a Charollais from Graham Barwise, Bell House, purchased by Tony Harrison.  Top price per kilo was 223 pence for a Beltex from Bill Skelton, Rook Farm, purchased by Alex Riley.
