Sale Report: 15th & 16th September Annual show & sale of Mule gimmer lambs & Lakeland sale of store lambs

The annual show & sale of Mule gimmer lambs was held on Friday 15th September 2017 and saw an increased entry of 10,645 head which sold to an overall average of £90.31 with NEMSA lambs averaging £90.91.

With Cockermouth auction mart now building a reputation of having true runs of well-bred North of England Mule gimmer lambs, buyers turned up in droves and had travelled from as far as Caithness, Devon and Wiltshire. The sale from start to finish was level throughout with vendors pleased with price and buyers over the moon with the quality of their purchases.

The show was kindly sponsored by Carrs Billington, Paul Chuter, NFU Mutual, Robinson Udale accountants & Myers & Bowman Toyota which saw the large & small breeders being judged by Mr E Holliday, Mr R Sizmur with Mr R Ogg as referee. There was strong competition for the Johnny Matterson Memorial Cup with the 1st prize large breeder AG & KF Nicholson, Swinside End Farm winning the overall championship with the second prize pen from M/s S Allan & Sons, Greenhow Farm taking the Reserve championship.

 

The JPA trophy for the best run of lambs very ably judged by Mr & Mrs Smith, Forbesfield and was awarded to AG & KF Nicholson, Swinside End who sold 518 lambs to average the leading flock average £120.45 per head.

Completing their hattrick AG & KF Nicholson, Swinside End showed the 1st prize pair of lambs which was kindly judged by Miss J Brough, Clappers

The Great Annual Lakeland Sale of Store lambs and Gimmer lambs was held on Saturday 16th September 2017 with a great entry of 6200 head catalogued. A large ringside of local and well-travelled buyers assembled hopeful to purchase from this sale which is renowned for lambs going on and doing well. All classes sold to a flying trade.

Leading the sale was a black Texel gimmer lamb from TA Bowe, Sunningdale, Frizington which sold to A Fell, Stockhill Kennels for £126. Store Lambs topped at £80.50 for Beltex Lambs from AJ Wood, Woodhall Brow, Dean.
