Sale Report: 15th December 2017 – Christmas show of calves & dairy cattle

On Friday 15th December 2017 Mitchells Auction Co, Cockermouth held their fortnightly sale of store & breeding stock and incorporated the annual show & sale of dairy cattle and calves.

Store Cattle

A seasonal entry of Store Cattle were easily sold maintaining recent high rates topping at £1065 for a Limousin Steer from JA & CM Brown, Park House, Cockermouth with others from the same home realising £1035 and £1015 twice.

 

Store Lambs

A small entry sold to increased rates pleasing vendors. Top price of £80 was paid for Texel lambs from P & A Jarman, Brow Top, Branthwaite.

Calves

The Christmas Show & Sale of Calves attracted a pleasing entry of 41 Calves which sold to a full ringside of buyers ensuring a brisk trade.

The Show was kindly sponsored by Genus with judging in the capable hands of Mr John Harrington, Bewaldeth who commented on the high quality show put before him. The Championship rosette was awarded to WH & F Wood, Well Head, Dean with a shapely 1 month old British Blue Bull Calf which later sold for £410.Reserve honours went to Messrs Clark, Fairladies Farm, Egremont with their 3 month old British Blue Bull which sold for £420.

Dairy

The Genus sponsored Christmas Show & Sale of Dairy was ably judged by Mr Richard Sewell, Greysouthen. After some deliberation the Christmas Dairy Show Champion Cup was awarded to JW Graves & Son, Home Farm, Tallentire with their newly calved Holstein Heifer which later sold for £1450. Reserve honours went to JN & FC Walker, Harrington Parks, Workington with a newly calved Friesian Heifer which sold for £1420.
