Sale Report: 1st September 2017 – Show & Sale of Breeding ewes & rams

On Friday 1st September 2017 Mitchells Auction Co held there annual show & sale of 4291 breeding ewes and 263 breeding rams.

Trade throughout the sale was fast going with an abundance of buyers packed into the ring creating an enthusiastic atmosphere which was pleasing for all vendors.

The day commenced with Josh Banks & Alan Brown conducting the judging. With 30 pens of top quality Mule & Continental ewes & shearlings to be placed. The championship was awarded to the 1st prize pen of Mule Shearlings from W Skelton, Rook Farm, this classy pen later sold to J Clark, Fairladies for £180 per head. The reserve honours went to JP Graham, The Wreay with his 1st prize pen of Continental gimmer shearlings which were purchased by GW Whitfield & Son, Low Stowbank for £205 per head.

The lunch time judging of the breeding rams was professionally conducted by Sandy Sanderson who awarded the champion & reserve rosettes to his 1st & 2nd prize Texel shearlings from M/s Beaty, Newton Field & RJ & AY Armstrong, Terrace Farm. Topping the ram trade was a stretchy Texel Shearling from the RJ & AY Armstrong, Terrace Farm which sold to J & HD Langcake, Sandhills Farm for £1000.
