Sale Report: 27 June 2012 Primestock

On Wednesday Mitchell’s held its weekly sale of primestock where there was a larger show of 112 prime cattle, bulls and cast cows, and 2049 prime lambs and cast ewes.

Cattle were again very good to sell. Top price per kilo was 245.5 pence for a Limousin heifer from Len Skelton, Low House Farm, purchased by Willy Timms.  Mr Skelton’s run of four heifers averaged 242.7pence.

Prime bulls sold to a top price of 220.5p/kg for a Limousin from Thomas Tyson, East House, with Black & Whites topping at 181.5p/kg from Robert Wilson, Lamplugh Hall.  Bulls were a flyer, right through.

Cast cows sold to 198.5p/kg for a British Blue from Richard Sunderland, Aspatria.
Black & White cows averaged a staggering 134.97p/kg.

Prime Heifers (Top price per kg – pence) – Limousin – 245.5 Low House; British Blue – 24.5 Low House; Blonde D’Aquitaine – 242.5 Low House; Charolais  -225.5 East House; Saler -225.5 Hunday.

Prime Steers (Top price per kg – pence) – Limousin – 218.5 Stowbank; British Blue – 218.5 Stowbank; Charolais – 208.5 Gatehouse.

Prime Bulls (Top price per kg – pence)  –  Limousin – 220.5 East House; British Blue –
215.5 East House; Black & White – 181.5 Lamplugh Hall.

Cast Cows (Top price per kg – pence) – British Blue – 198.5 Station Road; Black & White – 142.5 Frizington Hall; Holstein –142.5 Ribton House; Blonde D’Aquitaine – 147.5 High Low Hall; Limousin – 170.5 Lamplugh Hall; Saler – 165.5 Whinns; OTM Limousin Stock Bull 168.5 High Mansriggs.

Prime Lambs saw strong bidding, but a slightly less overall average of 201.66p/kg.
Top price per head was £111.50 for Texel lambs from Reg Almond, Irton House, purchased by Richard Wilson Butcher, Egremont.  £109.50 was paid twice for lambs from Alan
Bell, Fitz Farm, and Stuart Nixon, Ribton House, both lots went to Neil Lomax.  Top price per kilo was 220 pence for Texels from Seyour Farms, purchased by Cockermouth butcher, Mark Lindsay.
