The prize show and sale, sponsored by Stan Palmer and Hundith Hill Hotel, of hoggs with lambs at foot, was judged by Philip Elliott, Bank House. Mr Elliott had some outstanding pens of both Mule and continental hoggs presented for judging. The championship, and David Westgarth Memorial Trophy, was awarded to an excellent pen of five Mule hoggs with five Suffolk lambs at foot from Winter Bros, of Clickham, selling for £124.00 per head, and the reserves were the second placed pen of Mule Hoggs, from G Sowerby, Terrys Farm (£101.00). First placed continentals were from Messrs Sewell, Mayfield (£88.00). The sale followed, with a huge ringside of buyers in attendance. Prices were seen to be very acceptable for lowland bred hoggs and ewes with lambs at foot, the Herdwick and fellbred consignments, however, sold to higher prices than vendors anticipated.
