Sale Report: Friday 5th May 2017 Storestock & Dairy

Mitchells Livestock Auctioneers, Cockermouth, held their Annual May Show & sale with cattle competing for the Johnny Skelton Memorial Trophy.

The pre-sale show was kindly sponsored by Lloyds Motor Group and judged by John Bowe, Hunday Farm. John was presented with 2 classes of outstanding cattle and selected his 1st prize heifer as his champion. The champion was a very shapey 10 month old pure bred Limousin heifer from Messrs Wilkinson, Tilberthwaite’ which later sold for £1900 to Messrs Cooper.

Taking home the reserve honors was M/s Harryman, Keskadale, with a Limousin cross steer which sold for £1390 to Messrs Barker.

An increase in numbers drew buyers from across the UK to Mitchells in the hope of purchasing hardy Lakeland bred cattle. Grazing stock was very easy to sell with demand much stronger on the year which resulted in a premium being paid for young cattle.

Prices throughout the sale were seen to be fantastic with an abundance of buyers round the ring not allowing the trade to slip from start to finish. Averages: Steers £983.19 + £73.40 & Heifers £917.22 + £36.22.
