Sale Report: Store and breeding stock 20 July 2018

Store cattle

A seasonal entry with well fleshed and stronger cattle remaining at recent high rates. Top today was £1145 achieved for a Limousin Steer from W Sharpe, Woodend, Lamplugh. Heifers sold to a top of £1075 for a Charolais from Messrs Cockbain, Rakefoot, Keswick. 

Steer: – Limousin – 1145, 1125, 1105, 1055 Woodend, 1125, 1035 Grange Grassings, 1095 Overcroft, 1055 Nr Branthwaite Edge, 995, 985 Overcroft. Charolais – 1135, 1125, 1095, 1065, 1045, 1025, 1015, 1005 Rakefoot. British Blue – 1065 Newtonfield, 1035 Woodend, 965 Overcroft, 905 Armaside Farm. Aberdeen Angus – 1065, 955 Nr Branthwaite Edge, 955 Burnt House Farm, 915 Armaside Farm. Shorthorn – 945 Armaside Farm. Hereford – 835 Armaside Farm. Beef Shorthorn – 785 Burnt House Farm.

Breeding Cattle

Mitchells Auction were delighted to have been instructed to conduct the dispersal of the closed herd of Aberdeen Angus Cattle on behalf of Thomsen Estates and the Roper Family. This quality consignment of powerful Angus Cows with shapely Angus Calves at foot attracted great interest and a packed ringside of prospective purchasers keen to procure genuine hard working beef breeding outfits. This run topped at £1920 for the 5 year old Stock Bull and Cows with Calves to £1350.

Outwith the dispersal a top of £2700 was achieved for a 2 year old Limousin Stock Bull from Messrs Miller, Allerby Hall. Cows with Calves topped at £2350 for a Limousin Cow with Heifer Calf from F Thomlinson, Powe Croft.

Heifer & Heifer Calf:- British Blue – 1500(2) Brow Top Farm. Aberdeen Angus – 1180 Nr Branthwaite Edge.

Store Lambs:-  

The Opening Show and Sale of Store Lambs attracted a quality entry that were good to sell to a crowded ringside of buyers. Judging was in the capable hands of Mr Andrew Graham, Wigton who commented on the super show before him. After some deliberation the Championship rosette was awarded to the first prize pen of 10 Continental Lambs from GW Whitfield & Sons, Low Stowbank, Ennerdale which later achieved £81 per head.

Many more could have been well sold. Next fortnightly sale on Friday 3rd August.
